Joaquin Sorolla was one of the greatest natural painters of all time. Born in Valencia, this Spanish painter was active mainly in his native town and in Madrid. He was a prolific and popular artist, working on a wide range of subjects. His impressionist style marked by luminous coloring and vigorous brushwork earned him a considerable reputation throughout Europe and America. He was also a highly sought after portraitist. He was a great admirer of Velázquez, who is often claimed as the principal precursor of Impressionism, due to his free brush work and his amazing ability to suggest night and atmosphere. He was deeply influenced by a number of artists at the end of the nineteenth century including Monet, Sargent and Zorn. Sorolla’s early interest in Bastien Le-Page and Adolf Von Menzel, the apologists, has been noted many times before. This new, extensively illustrated monograph, written by the artist's great granddaughter, Blanca Pons-Sorolla, provides a comprehensive overview of his work including a fully illustrated chronology. Blanca Pons-Sorolla is accepted as the leading worldwide authority on Joaquin Sorolla.342 pages, including over 200 pages in process color. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
