Thomas Eakins’s manual on perspective, originally prepared by the artist for his students at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Eakins’s original text, along with his studies on linear perspective and mechanical drawing, reveal his extraordinary expertise, personality, and teaching philosophy.

As an independent student and teacher, by removing a loin cloth of a male model in a lecture given to a class including women he defied the Academy’s stated rules and was asked to resign.
